Took my Theo in for the first time, he was quite poorly and I called and they said to come straight down and he was seen and taken care of so well. Really lovely friendly staff. Absolutely hands down best vets i have been with! Thank you so much for seeing us so quickly and helping Theo start to feel better. Meow he says!

Fabulous team!
I use Your Family Vets for both my cat Millie & Dog Margot. The whole team are fantastic with both!
Margot absolutely adores Dr Phil & the team & she will actively seek to walk up the drive to the practice on walks despite having had procedures & a spay performed there.
Millie is a super anxious cat & a visit to the vets always brought stress & anxiety for us both. Now Millie is relaxed & calm attending appointments due to the relaxed, calm approach by the team. The appointment wasn't rushed & Phil took the time to gain Millie's trust.
We have taken advantage of the plan for both & definitely recommend it!
Nothing is ever too much trouble for the tream & you're always greeted with a warm welcome.

What’s a lovely, caring service from this independent veterinary. From the first conversation I had with Mel in the morning to meeting Mel and Fran in the evening. The process was smooth and quick. The information I was given was excellent and reassured me that Tilly was in very good hands. The check-up and diagnosis were exemplary. I cannot recommend this veterinary practice enough; luckily, we’re registered, but get in quickly, before their books are full.

I popped in on the look for a new vets for my old boy, was greeted with kindness, compassion and understanding. Booked my boy in for a health check and it was such a positive experience for him. From walking him in the door he was shown affection and fuss on his terms, in the consultation room I felt like we were listened too and not judged. Just a positive experience overall.

Our first time at the practice and we were very impressed with the service we received. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. The various treatments for our dog were explained in detail, giving us a better understanding of Buddy's leg injury and what steps to take next. Thank you!

After visiting several vets without finding the right care, I came to this practice and was so impressed. They truly listened to my concerns and provided the treatment my cat needed. She’s now pain-free and so much happier. I would highly recommend this vet to any pet owner.🐈⬛

We're newly registered with Your Family Vets and we're so impressed with them so far. Our first appointment, all of the team were so lovely, to us and our puppy. We were immediately put at ease and felt taken care of, which meant alot for new puppy owners. Dr Phillip was so generous with his time and gave us loads of advice. We've needed to book another appointment for our pup's symptoms and it was easy to get an appointment and send through photos to their whatsapp service. I would definitely recommend if you want a caring vet, with lovely staff and very easy admin and services!

the family vets were brilliant when we took a poorly hedgehog for a second opinion.they were very helpful and explained everything nothing was to much trouble and even though they could not save the little hedgehog they did try.they tried medicine to make him more comfortable but sadly we lost him.so now at last he can play with the other hedgehogs over the rainbow bridge.so if you need to take a pet or any animal to a vet go to the family vets they are the best.thank you all for listening to what we had to say and doing your best to help him, thank you.

Spotting Dental Problems in Your Cat: Signs to Watch For
Dental disease is one of the most common — and often overlooked — health concerns in cats. Catching it early can prevent discomfort, infections, and even more serious health complications. If you notice any of the following signs, it may be time to schedule a dental check-up for your cat at our Harrogate clinic:
Bad breath (halitosis) — If your cat’s breath smells unusually foul, it could be a sign of dental disease.
Yellow or brown tartar buildup on teeth — Visible plaque or tartar buildup can lead to gum disease.
Swollen or bleeding gums — Red or inflamed gums, or signs of blood when your cat chews or plays, are red flags.
Drooling more than usual — Excessive drooling can indicate oral discomfort or an issue with your cat’s teeth.
Pawing at the mouth or face — If your cat is persistently pawing at their mouth, it might be a sign that their teeth or gums are bothering them.
Difficulty eating or loss of appetite — Pain while eating, avoiding food, or difficulty chewing could signal dental pain.
Changes in mood or behavior — If your cat is more irritable or withdrawn than usual, dental pain may be the cause.
These symptoms can indicate tooth decay, gum disease, or other oral health issues. At Your Family Vets in Harrogate, our compassionate team can provide a thorough dental examination for your cat and recommend the best treatment plan to ensure their comfort and long-term health.
How Many Teeth Should My Cat Have?
A healthy adult cat has 30 permanent teeth:
12 incisors
4 canines
10 premolars
4 molars
Kittens start with 26 milk teeth, which usually fall out by 6 months of age. If you’re not sure whether your cat has all their adult teeth, our vets in Harrogate can help with a simple dental exam.
Dental Hygiene for Cats – What Works Best?
Just like humans, cats need regular dental care to avoid gum disease, plaque, and bad breath. Here are the vet-recommended ways to clean your cat’s teeth:
Daily brushing with cat-safe toothpaste
Dental chews or rawhide alternatives
Professional scaling and polishing by your vet
Not sure what the best thing to clean your cat’s teeth is? We can help you choose the right products and routines based on your cat’s breed, size, and oral health.

Phil, Mel and the team are just great! Very friendly and informative, they take the time to get to know you and your pet(s).
They have been super accomodating when I was worried about my pup just before a weekend, got her in to get checked over and made more comfortable really quickly. And my elderly cat got lots of love and cuddles while he was in getting blood work done.
