What is CT and why is it better than X-ray?
CT (Computed Tomography) uses many thin cross-sectional images to create a highly detailed 3D view inside your pet. Compared with standard X-rays, CT shows far more detail and separates overlapping structures—crucial for accurate diagnosis and planning.
- 3D detail of bone, lungs, skull, spine & joints
- Rapid scans (usually minutes) and fast results
- Better surgical planning → smaller incisions, safer procedures
Common reasons we use CT
- Head & dental: tooth root disease, jaw/skull issues, nasal disease
- Spine & orthopaedics: suspected IVDD, elbow dysplasia, fractures
- Chest & abdomen: lung nodules, masses, trauma assessment
- Cancer staging: to assess spread and plan treatment
- Ear disease: chronic otitis, middle ear (bulla) problems
We also perform contrast studies when appropriate to highlight vessels, organs or masses.
